By using the typical techniques of the web design, Reggiani develops web-based interactive applications for the use of intranet or extranet and associated to PDA. The field of application is the collection and elaboration of data. A web-based solution can replace an existing paper-based process and also develop a brand new one.

Main characteristics

The actual implementation is based on the most suitable technology in accordance with each specific case: our technicians suggest the best technology according to parameters such as data security, privacy, size of data to be managed, and other constraints that may arise during the analysis. The general scheme of the proposed solution is shown in the figure below. It is made up of three main components: data collection, method of data transfer and server-side components.

The data collection is performed through PDA mobile devices. Data are being sent directly to the server through wireless systems. The web-based interface with the user is intuitive and can be used also by unskilled users. The mobile device is designed to facilitate the ordinary workflow. Finally, the person in charge of data management is able to integrate the system with additional data.

The method of data transfer can be both wireless and with cable, following the user’s needs. Generally speaking, the person who collects data uses wireless systems, while data managers use wired systems. In any case, the system can be reconfigured as needed and every actor in the process may use either wireless or wired technologies, or both. Security in the data transfer process is guaranteed by encrypted technologies, like the SSL.

The server-side components are the core of the system. Their task is to validate and process data and make them available. It is also responsible for the management of data flow, according to the process established in the analysis.
