Two-Dimensional Codes

The QR (Quick Response) Code is a two-dimensional code created by Denso-Wave Corporation. QR codes are much more used in Japan but are becoming very popular also in Europe.

The major newspapers and manufacturers of mobile phones are gradually integrating this technology.

Main characteristics

These codes can be used to store web addresses and other data in a format that can be easily interpreted by a cell phone with an integrated camera. In this way, visual hyperlinks will create connections with web sites in real time.

Benefits

  • It solves problems caused by potential typos’ mistakes and everything is easily done with a “click”.
  • It allows the supply of information in small spaces, which is very useful in labels and leaflets.
  • The message that is linked to a code can change dynamically therefore the info is constantly updated.
  • QR codes can be created with messages, with the text to pass through, and then to spread them out.

Why Reggiani

Reggiani has developed two pilot applications based on this technology:

Dynamic Lotteries Management

The code can be printed on any type of product and then link to a web site which indicates the win. The code can be used only once for the same lottery but can be reactivated for different lotteries.

Informative maps

The aim is to use the code in order to address the user, through a cell phone, to a map with a specific location. For example, one can identify a particular hotel chain through an advertising sign and make a reservation of a hotel room.
